When Christianity got started over 2000 years ago it found itself vulnerable to false teachers and teachings that sought to undermine the integrity of the Christian message. In response, the church took responsibility for training its leaders so that Christianity would have available to itself minds that were equipped to develop doctrine and beliefs.
